How To Make Your Tech Neck Feel Better

tech neck

You probably know a lot about technology, but have you ever considered the impact your tech tools have on your neck and spine? This is called tech neck and it can be a very bothersome irritation.

Your neck pain is annoying — but it doesn’t have to be. With some minor adjustments to your computer setup or your posture when looking at your phone every two seconds, you can significantly reduce your neck pain.

What Is Tech Neck Pain?

This type of neck pain refers to any type of repetitive stress injury caused by excessive use of a computer or mobile device. Of course, repetitive tasks and activities are a part of our everyday lives — but overuse of computers, smartphones, tablets, and similar devices can cause neck pain. Looking down at our phones constantly is one of the major causes of technology neck. It has been said that we add a lot of weight to our neck muscles as we look down.

What Are the Most Common Causes?

The most common causes of neck muscle pain appear to be lifting objects overhead, hunching over a laptop or tablet screen and neck pain that begins or worsens after using a phone or tablet.

For years, technology neck irritation have been one of the most common causes of neck pain among computer users. When you sit in front of computers for extended periods of time, your neck muscles and joints become strained and often develop painful knots. The more time you spend using your computer at work, the greater the risk that you’ll develop a neck pain.

While the symptoms of neck muscle pain are worse after sitting at a computer all day long, it is not limited to only the computer. Some of the other common causes of sore muscles in your neck include sleeping with your head on the table, playing video games, and having a neck injury.

How Can I Prevent Tech Neck Pain?

When it comes to avoiding technology caused neck pain, there are some basic, everyday things you can do to help avoid the problem.

1. Keep your head upright when using your laptop.

2. Use a desk that is at least five inches higher than your eyes. A standing desk will do miracles for your neck

3. Avoid working for long periods of time in front of a computer. Take multiple breaks to stretch.

4. Use a mouse with wrist rests. It is amazing how much this will help not only your neck but carpol tunnel as well.

5. Avoid using your laptop for extended periods of time. I say this as I type this article on my laptop. However, I take a lot of breaks to relax my neck.

6. Limit the use of your cell phone. Your text messages will still be there even if you don’t check them every two minutes. Try to answer them all at once and then put your phone down!

How do I Get Rid of My Technology Neck Pain?

If your tech neck isn’t getting better even after following some of the tips above, it may be time to consider an alternative method to improve comfort. There are different methods to relax and reduce tension in the back and neck, but the best way to relieve the pressure on your neck is a good massage. You’ll be amazed on what that will do not only for your tech neck but also for relaxing the rest of your body and mind. If you cannot get to a massage therapist you might want to check out these.
